a) Surface preparation
b) Application of paint
If there is a problem of leakage, seepage, dampness, and salt formation on the wall – normal painting will not solve this. Please use and apply appropriate water proofing chemical to rectify the problem before starting the painting procedure.
Some of the defects that can occur pre/post painting are as follows:
i)Brush marks
- Vertical, horizontal or a mesh like pattern made by brush while application which results in brush marks.
Remedies - Brush marks
ii) Blistering
- Blisters (boils) can develop in various forms, sizes, areas and density. Blistering can occur between the individual layers and also beneath the entire dry film. Blisters disappear in dry weather and sometimes leave marks behind.
Remedies - Blistering
iii) Peeling or flaking
This occurs on account of failure of a coating film to maintain adhesion with its substrate. This condition results when the surface is contaminated (with loose paint materials, dust, lime wash/ distemper/ cement paint or grease/oil etc). Also moisture seepage coming from the wall itself can cause peeling or flaking.
Remedies - Peeling or Flaking
iv) Shade variation
- Major mismatch of the color delivered on the painted surface with the standard shade tab in the color palette/ spectra.
Remedies - Shade variation
v)Chalking
A chalky dust or powder from the painted surface which comes off on the hand when rubbed or wiped across the surface.
Remedies - Chalking
vi) Lime blooming
In case of exterior, whitish marks on the film or powder like deposit forms a layer on the surface of the film.
Remedies - Lime blooming
vii)Patchiness
Areas of the surface with a differing texture or degree of gloss surrounded by clearly defined boundary or colored lines.
Remedies
viii) Fungal and Algal Growth
Algae - Bluish green appearance ( typically observed on exterior surfaces).
Fungus- Brownish/ blackish appearance ( typically observed on interior surfaces).
All Asian Paints products have certain amount of anti algal and anti fungal (anti microbial) property. High quality paints have superior anti microbial property. But for a regular source of moisture, like potted plant in close proximity with daily watering etc, near the painted wall - microbial growth will be inevitable.
