  • Insist on recommended number of primer and top coats.

If there is a problem of leakage, seepage, dampness, and salt formation on the wall – normal painting will not solve this. Please use and apply appropriate water proofing chemical to rectify the problem before starting the painting procedure.

6.    What to do for longer life of paint?
  • Insist on 3 coats for horizontal surface on exteriors.
  • Insist on bio-wash treatment to get rid of algae/fungi infestation.

8.    What are the defects that can occur pre/post painting?

Some of the defects that can occur pre/post painting are as follows:

i)Brush marks

- Vertical, horizontal or a mesh like pattern made by brush while application which results in brush marks.

Remedies - Brush marks

  • Employ skilful painter - Contact Asian Paints or our Dealer for recommendation.
  • Sand the affected area till smooth finish and apply paint after recommended thinning using brush followed by rolling techniques.

ii) Blistering

- Blisters (boils) can develop in various forms, sizes, areas and density. Blistering can occur between the individual layers and also beneath the entire dry film. Blisters disappear in dry weather and sometimes leave marks behind.

Remedies - Blistering

  • Sand the affected area to achieve smoothness and then repaint the whole wall.

iii) Peeling or flaking
Paint peeling2.jpg
This occurs on account of failure of a coating film to maintain adhesion with its substrate. This condition results when the surface is contaminated (with loose paint materials, dust, lime wash/ distemper/ cement paint or  grease/oil etc). Also moisture seepage coming from the wall itself can cause peeling or flaking.

 Remedies - Peeling or Flaking

  • Scrape down the area as much as possible.
  • Carry out waterproofing job if moisture still persists.
  • Clean the surface till it’s free from powder and good enough to apply primer coat.
  • Repaint the area using recommended system.

iv) Shade variation

- Major mismatch of the color delivered on the painted surface with the standard shade tab in the color palette/ spectra.

Remedies - Shade variation

  • Minor shade variation may come as shade shown in shade cards are only for indication purpose.
  • Changes in lights of the room can change shade – so always compare shades with shade card and with liquid sample under same lights.
  • Ensure proper mixing in gyroshaker for recommended time.
  • Shake the paint before use.
  • Put another coat of paint with correct shade.
  • If problem persists - log your complaint in the Asian Paints Nepal website Customer Complaint Management System or send a mail to [email protected]

v)Chalking
chalking.png
A chalky dust or powder from the painted surface which comes off on the hand when rubbed or wiped across the surface.

Remedies - Chalking

  • Remove the chalky matters as much as possible through sanding and wiping.
  • Rinse the surface thoroughly and dry it.
  • Apply a coat of primer.
  • Check for chalking.
  • Repaint with a good quality paint.
  • If problem persists - log your complaint in the Asian Paints Nepal website Customer Complaint Management System or send a mail to [email protected]

vi) Lime blooming
In case of exterior, whitish marks on the film or powder like deposit forms a layer on the surface of the film.

Remedies - Lime blooming

  • Scrape with a wire brush and repaint with a superior quality product and follow the painting procedure thoroughly.
  • If any dampness or water seepage or moisture and salt formation observed – carry out waterproofing first before painting.
  • If problem persists - log your complaint in the Asian Paints Nepal website Customer Complaint Management System or send a mail to [email protected]

vii)Patchiness
Areas of the surface with a differing texture or degree of gloss surrounded by clearly defined boundary or colored lines.

Remedies

  • In minor cases, apply one or two more coats with the correct dilution.
  • Sand the surface lightly if it is observed uniformly on surface.
  • Scrape the surface and repaint using full painting system in severe cases.

viii) Fungal and Algal Growth

Algae - Bluish green appearance ( typically observed on exterior surfaces).
Fungus- Brownish/ blackish appearance ( typically observed on interior surfaces).
All Asian Paints products have certain amount of anti algal and anti fungal (anti microbial) property. High quality paints have superior anti microbial property. But for a regular source of moisture, like potted plant in close proximity with daily watering etc, near the painted wall - microbial growth will be inevitable.

Remedies-Fungal and Algal Growth

  • Remove the source of leakage/ dampness / moisture exposure.
  • Consult a water proofing expert and use water proofing chemicals to contain dampness.
  • Repaint the surface.
  • Scrape the entire area and repaint  the surface with full system.
