Situations During Annual Kainai Indian Days

The Blood Tribe Police Service is issuing this release to inform the public of some of the situations that the BTPS encountered last weekend during the annual Kainai Indian Days.

During the 50th annual Kainai Indian Days, held July 13-17, 2016 the community hosted a INFR Tour Rodeo, competition Pow-wow, base ball tournament, traditional hand games and a fair. This is historically the busiest time of year for Blood Tribe Police Service, this year was no different.

On July 15th, 2016 at approximately 5 PM, police and EMS responded to a call of an unresponsive male in the community of Moses Lake on the Blood Reserve, this is immediately north of the town of Cardston. A 34 year old male was pronounced dead on scene, the Medical Examiner has ruled the death non-criminal.

Police made a large drug seizure, 80.5 suspected OXy 80's and Jimmi Karnell CALLING BULL of Edmonton was charged with Possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

On July 16th at approximately 9pm Police responded to a call of a male shooting and pointing a long barrel gun in a residence south of Standoff. Police arrested Kacey Cole SHADE and seized a rifle during the investigation. Shade is charged with Assault X2, Uttering Threats X2 and 5 counts of Breaching a Probation Order and will appear in Cardston Provincial Court August 15, 2016.

On July 17th at approximately 6pm EMS and Police found a 10 year old boy who was unresponsive in the river near Red Crow Park, in Standoff. CPR was administered on scene and the young boy was transported to the Hospital where he was later airlifted by STARS Air Ambulance to Alberta Children's Hospital where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit. The child is suspected of suffering a medical incident while playing in the river.

On July 17th at approximately 10pm Police found a 24 year old male to be unresponsive at the pow-wow in Red Crow Park, CPR and emergency medication assisted in reviving the male at which time he was transported to the hospital. Indication on scene and at the hospital was that this was a drug overdose.

Blood Tribe Police Service laid a total of 57 charges for both Provincial and Criminal offences, these include but are not limited to:

• Failing to comply with a Court Order
• Speeding
• Assault
• Driving Uninsured Motor Vehicle
• Assault with a Weapon
• Open liquor in Motor Vehicle
• Uttering Threats
• Drive While Unauthorized
• Impaired Driving
• Improper Use of Licence Plate
• Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Operate MV Without Registration
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
• Mischief to property
